Yahoo! Testing Cell Phone Search Ads

Ads everywhere you look seem to be where our future is heading and Yahoo is helping out in that destiny by putting ads on your cell phone.

The Seattle Pi with the story:

Yahoo! Inc. is testing ways to show advertisements with Internet search results on mobile phones in Japan and Britain.

Yahoo! is adding text ads that appear when people use its search engine from their handsets in Japan, and the company is auctioning off spots on its mobile travel Web site in Britain, Senior Vice President Doug Garland said.

The trials mark Yahoo!’s first experiments with search advertising on phones and may provide an avenue to sell more ads to companies seeking to reach younger consumers.

Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Yahoo! is hiring engineers and crafting products for cell phones, which now outsell personal computers more than 3 to 1.

“The way that Yahoo! is going to stay relevant and essential is by extending our services beyond the PC browser to all devices that consumers use,” Garland, who runs Yahoo!’s mobile group, said Wednesday in an interview at a conference in San Francisco.

“There will be a paid search market that develops.”

Nokia Begins Shipping the N70

Nokia N70 Mobile Scraper has notice up that the N70 started shipping in Europe. No word yet on when it will come to North America, but either way it looks like a really nice phone.

Nokia today announced the release of their flagship 3g phone, the N70, which combines a sexy sliding style with a complete package of features underneath.

The N70 features a 2.0MP Camera which is activated through the slide system and reminds me a lot of the K750i, it also has flash and an autofocus tool to capture those perfect moments. Oh and to prove Nokia can keep up with the trends they also have thrown in a music player and an interesting app that sync’s all your data across from your PC when in range.

The N70 pretty much sums up the jack of all trades phone and now that it is available in Europe you should be able to pick one up for the sum of £250ish

LG’s F7200 with push-to-talk

LG F7200Engadget has all the news today with a short snippit on the F7200.

So LG was showing off their new Cingular push-to-talk launch device, the F7200 last night.

Not really a remarkable phone, and perhaps a little larger than we might have expected for an LG slider device of this class, but you won’t have to worry about making a decision between it and the Samsung D357 in the immediate future being that their PTT launch has apparently been delayed until mid-November. Yay!

So it looks like Cingular is racking up some nice phones for near christmas releases. Should be interesting to see how this one performs against the Samsung D357.

Samsung’s SGH-D307 QWERTY Dual-Hinge

The Samsung SGH-D307 appears to be Samsung’s answer to other recent messaging phones such as the Motorola A630 and LG F9100.

The device has a dual-flip hinge similar to the Motorola MPx, allowing the phone to be opened like a typical clamshell to place calls, or horizontally for typing. It looks a little awkward but since the Motorola MPx got pulled and won’t be coming to North America, this might be the best contender in its category.

Samsung SGH-D307

According to FCC documents, features of the D307 include quad-band GSM, EDGE high-speed data, Bluetooth, an internal antenna, and an outer caller-ID display.

The model numbering and frequency bands are consistent with phones for Cingular and on Engadget they saw one with Cingular branding.

Details from Phonescoop and Engadget.
