Electronic Arts to Bring Games to Cell Phones

Have you ever wanted to play SimCity on your cell phone? Well, it does not look like it will be much longer until you can, as EA is going to bring some of its best games to cell phones.

Computer games producer Electronic Arts (EA) said it will soon launch games that can be played on cell phones. Some of the games that will be available include Fifa 2006 and SimCity.

Furthermore, EA will also release games such as “The Sims 2″ and “Need for Speed Most Wanted” for cell phones, expected to be released by the end of 2005.

Each game will set you back around $5, but it seems it could be worth it as new phones have better and better resolution, and capabilities.

Samsung SGH-D600 Review

Samsung SGH-D600Earlier this month, I was able to hear about the D600 from Samsung thanks to Pocket-Lint, and now they have a review on this interesting slider phone.

We have to admit it, we love the D600. It’s black curvy lines, the large screen and the sliding motion make this phone ooze with style. The sliding bit has to be one of the best balanced we’ve seen and you won’t be able to stop yourself sliding it backwards and forwards. The nearest thing we can relate it to is trying to push two magnets together when the magnetic force is trying to resist you. Lovely.

The phone isn’t just about the keypad – there are other features here too. The phone also features a 2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth connectivity to connect a headset, Quad-band support for global travel, a 256K colour screen and the ability to output the screen to a standard television to share videos and images you’ve captured. Considering the upsizing that has to be done from the small screen to the television – the results are very impressive.

In the end they give it a near perfect nine out of a possible ten points in their scoring system.

5 Ways to Improve Your Camera Phone Pictures

Coming from Microsoft.com is a list of 5 tips to improve the images you take with your camera phone.

1. Adjust Image Compression
The JPEG format used by digital cameras is flexible in that it allows you to decide how much detail you want to preserve. If you want to preserve every last detail because you want to make prints, you should select the “super fine” quality level. Just be aware that you won’t be able to fit many pictures in your camera’s memory.

2. Frame Your Shot
You may miss a zoom lens. Few camera phones have a zoom lens, though many offer something called a digital zoom.

It’s better to use your camera phone the way it was designed: as a wide-angle lens. You’re going to have to get close to your center of interest—don’t try this with the moose—but the camera’s wide view will give you perspective.

3. Get Artsy
Even though the average camera in a Pocket PC or Smartphone won’t compete with a state-of-the-art digital camera, there are other possibilities. Set your camera on grayscale or sepia and play around with light and shadow.

4. Move Your Images from Device to PC and Back
You can also copy pictures from your PC to your device using a memory card. Insert the memory card into the memory card slot on your device and then copy the pictures from your PC to the folder you created on the memory card.

5. Share Your Images
Once you’ve captured your images, it’s time to share them with the world. If you keep a blog, you may want to use a program like PicoBlogger which automatically generates your moblog entries for you. Read more about mobile blogging, usually called moblogging.

Though I don’t know how sharing your images or moving them around will imrpove them, they are great tips none the less.

BlackBerry e-mail may be Halted

It looks like BlackBerry may lose its e-mail service as RIM lost its Supreme Court bid.

Research In Motion Ltd. lost a Supreme Court bid to block proceedings that might result in a nationwide shutdown of its BlackBerry e-mail service. RIM is appealing an infringement verdict to the high court and wanted the lawsuit stalled while the appeal was pending. Chief Justice John Roberts denied the company’s request for a stay, without comment.

A decision like this could unravel all that Research In Motion has created.

VK Mobile Introduce Worlds Thinnest Handset, the VK2000

VK2000Mobile Burn has the details on a cell phone that is only a third of an inch thick. The VK2000 is going to be one of the thinnest, if not the thinnest handset.

Measuring in at only 8.8mm (0.34″) thin, the VK2000 undercuts the Motorola SLVR by almost 3mm. Weighing in at only 49g (1.72oz), VK claims that this is the thinnest and lightest handset in the world. With dimensions like these, I am not one to argue with that claim.

While small, the VK2000 lacks many of the features users have come to expect from handsets today. Absent from the list is a camera and Bluetooth, though the VK2000 does come equipped with a quad band radio. EMS and SMS messaging are supported, and the VK2000 includes a 65k color display.

Credit Card Sized Phone from Samsung

Samsung SGH-P300

It looks like Samsung might be releasing a phone that is actually the size of a credit card. I knew these were coming as makers continually try to out do each other with smaller and small phones, and if you don’t need to put the camera and all of the other “extra” features in, you could make rediculously tiny phones.

I was expecting them to look more like the one ear wireless headsets people use, but who am I to complain, this thing is tiny, and it has a camera.

Specifications:

  • Model: Samsung SGH-P300
  • Li-ion 800 mAh
  • 96g
  • 1.3 megapixel camera
  • GPRS, MMS, Bluetooth
  • 90MB memory

Nokia 6010 Review

Nokia 6010A pretty basic phone, the Nokia 6010 is being reviewed over at MobileBurn.

With four pages of information and details, once you are finished reading it, you might know more about the phone than the manufacturer.

Nokia’s 6010 is one such handset that is being made available on pre-paid calling plans. The 6010 is the entry level model in Nokia’s 6000 series of more classically styled, business oriented handsets.

It has a relatively simple set of core features when compared to modern megapixel cameraphones and keyboard laden smartphones, but considering its low cost and solid performance, it should be of real interest to a lot of people looking to get their first mobile phone.
