Movies ‘ROK’ Full-Screen on Microsoft Handsets

ROK Player has fixed it for Microsoft PDA users to watch full-length movies, TV comedies and music video albums on the move. ROK Player content-loaded memory cards, already compatible with a range of Nokia’s Symbian-powered handsets, is now available on MICROSOFT PDA handsets.

ROK has licensed a library of content to include classic BBC comedies series Little Britain, The League of Gentlemen, The Office and Red Dwarf, and full length feature films including The Shawshank Redemption as well as music video albums and cartoons such as Spongebob Squarepants. All Digital Video Chips are available to purchase online at www.rokplayer.com and at a growing number of mobile phone shops across the UK.

ROK Player, with it’s ‘Plug and Play’ facility, was the first ever service to enable people to watch full-length audio-visual programmes on their mobiles without the need for streaming or downloads. Before ROK Player was launched, leading content owners such as film distributors, TV companies, production houses and record labels had no way of packaging full-length content appropriately for the mobile.

ROK was awarded a patent on 11th January 2006 for its Digital Video Chips, which covers the storage of DRM-protected audio-visual content on memory cards for play on mobile phones.

“Making ROK Digital Video Chips compatible with Microsoft handsets is a massive development for ROK Player. Now we have Microsoft as well as Symbian, we are compatible with around 70% of all smartphones currently being sold.” Said Jonathan Kendrick, Chairman and CEO of ROK Entertainment.

Top 10 reasons you should (not) buy a music phone

Infosync World has compiled a list of reasons you should…or maybe should not, buy a music phone. It is very funny and not really meant to be taken seriously.

My favorite is number four on the list:

4. The whole phone-rings-pause-MP3-player-rip-out-headphones-strangle-self with-tangled-handsfree-kit-ultimately-miss-call thing is getting old

Partially because I have seen someone do that to themselves. It is a funny read, and great for an afternoon laugh.

Panda Software launches the beta version of Panda MobileSecurity

Panda Software presents the beta version of Panda MobileSecurity, the solution for protecting smartphones based on Symbian Series 60. This new tool offers real-time protection for this device against viruses, Trojans, worms, etc., thanks to its system for scanning the internal memory, memory cards or the entire system. The product will include, in the final version, automatic updates and a complete support service, including SOS Virus, where suspicious files can be sent for analysis.

The application runs in parallel and without interference with the normal operation of the phone, scanning all inbound items through any transfer mechanism. Panda MobileSecurity can be customized through a range of protection settings, available on an easy-to-use interface.

“This product guarantees the security of cell phone clients, benefiting both clients and telecommunication providers, who can trust that their networks are free from threats,” says José Mª Daza, director of Managed Services Business Unit. “Everything that reaches the phone, such as messages, files, vCards, etc., is scanned to prevent infection before it is installed – whether it arrives by email, MMS, infrared or Bluetooth. In addition, its features have been optimized to ensure that it operates transparently to the user.”

Threats to cell phones have advanced from mere concept trials to an emerging reality. The proliferation of entire malware families for these devices, such as Commwarrior or Cardtrap, with the capability of rendering the device unusable, means that the threat can no longer be ignored.

“Unfortunately, this is a natural evolution on the part of malware creators, who are constantly searching for new propagation channels,” explains Luis Corrons, director of PandaLabs. “This will soon evolve into a major problem, given the complex functions of today’s intelligent devices, which create added vulnerabilities for malware.”

Motorola V195

Motorola V195Mobile Burn looks at the V195 from Motorola and gives a quick rundown of the specs.

Motorola has announced a new mid-range clamshell for the business market that, unlike most handsets in its price range, has an incredible battery life.

The Motorola V195 contains a 1020mAh battery, giving it up to ten hours talk time and 21 days standby - quite a feat for a budget handset.

Being without a camera or memory expansion slot, it is a cell phone first, with none of the crazy gadgets that many people are looking for these days. At the end of the article they let us know that the Motorola V195 should be available during second quarter of this this year in two colors: dark pearl grey and cosmic blue.

OhGizmo Review The Nokia N70

Nokia N70OhGizmo reviews the Nokia N70 and includes images, and even video on the phone. Someone was really excited to get it, as they even included images of unwrapping the phone, as though it was the presents that topped all presents.

On with the writing. So what makes the N70 so special? Well, here’s a quick rundown. At the end of this article, you can find a slightly longer list with highlights of the tech specs, and also a link to a PDF containing a blow-by-blow of every single feature on the phone. But the things that count are the 2MP camera with flash, the FM tuner, the video recorder to MPEG4 format, the full-screen playback, the hotswappable RS-MMC slot, and the slew of features that come with the S60 operating system, including the ability to add third-party applications.

This is only part one of a two part review that will continue to look at the N70 in great depth.

Top rated 3G phones

Sony Ericsson W900iInfoSync World shows off their top rated 3G cell phones in a recent article. They give the Sony Ericsson W900i top honors, with others falling in line behind it.

Sony Ericsson W900i (Score: 87%, Very good)

Sony Ericsson W900i
Making its way to the number one spot on our list ist Sony Ericsson’s all-singing, all-dancing W900i, complete with speedy 3G; a superb high-resolution display; and a snap-happy 2 Megapixel camera with autofocus. Its browser is unfortunately rather average and battery life is naturally modest for such a fully featured handset - but for €650 EUR, one does get an outstanding music player and Bluetooth connectivity for either streaming audio in stereo or providing high-speed Internet access for a laptop.

The other phones mentioned are the Nokia N70, Nokia 6680, LG U880 and the Sony Ericsson K608i.

Nokia 7380 Review

Nokia 7380MobileBurn looks at the Nokia 7380, a very small and interesting fasion phone.

The Nokia 7380 is the second version of Nokia’s “pen” or “lipstick” shaped mobile phone, the first having been the 7280. Obviously targeted at female consumers, the 7380 has a very slender form factor and a mirrored finish on its front that obscures the display when the backlight is off. Its most obvious trait is probably its lack of a conventional keypad, which also happens to be the device’s biggest shortcoming when it comes to practical use.

It seems quite obvious that the 7380 is meant to be fashionable first and functional second, but is it functional enough to be usable?

In the end the phone managed to earn a recommended rating, which was a little surprising in my opnion since they found the call audio so bad.

The Perfect Business Phone

InfoSync World has an article up talking about the perfect business cell phone, and while usually people that create such a document don’t want to list a specific phone, so that the article can stand the test of time, InfoSync World actually did.

By now, you’re probably wondering whether any device meets our stringent requirements - and we’re happy to say that Palm’s Treo 700w is it. Only somewhat hampered by a cramped display and less than ideal one-handed navigation, it performs very well across the board despite its small size, hitting the sweet spot as our preferred business phone for the US market.

Hands-On With Sony Ericsson’s M600

Sony Ericsson M600Mobile Burn has been able to take a look at the M600 from Sony Ericsson.

The inaugural M series handset, the UMTS/GSM M600, shares a large percentage of its components with the W950 Walkman phone that was announced later that night.

The keyboard has an unusual layout that is not altogether dissimilar to that of the RIM BlackBerry 7100 series. A somewhat normal numeric keypad is found in the middle of the device, and an extra column of keys are found on either side of it.

Each key represents two letters of the alphabet, just as is the case in the RIM handsets.

The M600 comes with about 80MB of internal storage built-in. In order to augment that further, a Memory Stick Micro slot was installed on the right side of the device.

The M600’s nice 2.6″ QVGA display is only slightly smaller than the display found in the P990 (2.8″).

It is very bright, and has touch-screen functionality that enables the user to use a stylus with the UIQ v3 user interface that the M600 runs on top of Symbian OS v9.1.

In the end they let us know that Europe and North Americal can expect to see the M600 around the second quarter of this year.

Samsung T809 Review

Samsung T809Phone Scoop looks at the T809 from Samsung. It is a really nice looking fasion slider phone.

Phone Scoop positions the phone as a RAZR alternative, and I would have to agree, but more so as a RAZR destroyer with its better display, larger camera sensor, and what many consider to be a better user interface, in an equally small and sleek form factor.

The Samsung t809 is T-Mobile’s gorgeous new fashion phone, and it certainly is the light around which people will crowd.

The t809’s display is hands-down one of the best we’ve seen, and particularly in such a svelte phone.

If you find yourself texting occasionally, sharing photos and video, or just using your phone as a flashlight, the t809 will surpass your expectations. However if you plan on using the t809 as heavy texting tool or a camera replacement, it won’t stand up to the job.

The display on the t809 is without a doubt one of the best we’ve seen in recent memory. The 18-bit 240×320 display provides five brightness settings, as well as controls for both when the backlight dims and when it shuts off completely, ranging from three minutes to fifteen seconds.
