Sony Ericsson K800i Review

Sony Ericsson K800i3G.co.uk recently reviewed the Sony Ericsson K800i, a Cyber-Shot branded cell phone.

The K800i is the first Sony Ericsson handset to sport the Cyber-shot brand name from Sony’s famous standalone digital camera series. Sony Ericsson has enlisted the science dudes at Sony imaging to help develop the Cyber-shot phone series and make it the closet yet to your dedicated digital shutterbug in terms of features and functionality.

The K800i accommodates a 3.2-megapixel lens with autofocus, built-in Xenon flash, image stabilising technology and a splendid new shooting mode called BestPic (see ‘Take your best shot’ box out for an in-depth look). Not to mention that it hurtles around at 3G speeds.

In the end they gave the K800i a rating of 91%, as its only negative points were really the lack of an optical zoom for the camera, and a new MemoryStick format that you’d need to get a card for.

Motorola PVOT Concept Phone

Remember the $100 Laptop concept, where as an alternative to charging the battery from AC-power, the hinge actually contains a hand-crank to load up the battery with some juice while in the field? Well, motorola has just the thing for mobile phones: the PVOT concept phone. Techblog has the skinny:

Designed for developing nations, the Motorola PVOT is a hand crank, rechargeable AA battery powered phone. You get one minute of use for every 25 cranks. Other features include a 125 x 125 Dot Matrix LCD and an “Eraser Shield” keypad. No word yet on if this concept will go into production.

Cellphone9 says it’s a DMB CNCEPT, but hey, there’s a market for self-charging mobiles. Okay, there are concept solar-cell paneled mobile batteries, but this one’s more robust (you can’t charge a solar-cell under the moon!), in my opinion. And the use of AA also helps–I used to own an AA-powered Motorola (back in the heyday of analog phones), and it was cool that I didn’t fear losing juice in the middle of nowhere as long as I had AA cells to replace the rechargeable pack with.

HTC Star Trek Review

HTC Star TrekWho would name their mobile phone the “Star Trek”? Well the Qtek 8500, aka the HTC Star Trek is an interesting little clamshell. The Unwired has the review on the new phone.

Lightweight and ultra slim, the recently announced Qtek 8500 (aka HTC Star Trek or as it is called now “STRTrk”) offers a comprehensive range of entertainment and office functions and incorporates a high quality camera that allow you to take full advantage of any free time. This stylish, but hard working mobile places you firmly in control with high speed Internet surfing and data downloads linked through the latest connectivity technologies like quad-band GSM, EDGE and Bluetooth.

The Qtek 8500 is a typical clamshell phone but HTC’s first clamshell Windows Mobile Smartphone. It’s using Microsoft’s latest Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone operating system and measures 98.5mm x 51,4mm x 15,8mm and weights 99g including battery. It’s sporting a TI OMAP 850 CPU, running at 200MHz and has 64 MB of ROM and 64 MB of RAM.

In the end they say it is a solid phone, but as this is the first part of two parts for the review, they do not give a full conclusion on the phone as of yet.
