Verizon Shows LG VX9800 EV-DO Communicator

LG VX9800 EV-DO CommunicatorMobile Burn has the scoop on the LG VX9800 EV-DO Communicator. It looks like a really interesting cell phone/pocket pc.

Today Verizon Wireless took the unusual step of announcing a device that is not ready to ship yet. The new LG VX9800, a QWERTY keyboard equipped handset with some links to the F9100 that was sold on Cingular, was announced today. Verizon says that people can “pre-register” for the phone, but the website merely offers a link that will ensure that you receive an email when the device is truly available next week.

The VX9800’s spec sheet is pretty impressive. It offers a 1.3 megapixel camera, built-in stereo speakers, 12MB of internal RAM with a miniSD expansion card slot, and a MP3 player. The camera includes a business card read function. For the messaging system, there is also a text to speech function. Unlike the F9100 that used the same display for the keypad and keyboard, the VX9800 opens up like a communicator to reveal a larger, separate display for use with the keyboard. The large internal display is a 320×256 pixel 262k color unit. The external is a smaller 160×128 pixel 65k color unit.

As of the 26th of September, the LG VX9800 will be available for $299.99 after a $50 mail in rebate.
