Motorola ROKR iTunes Phone

Motorola ROKR iTunes PhoneMotorola and Apple yesterday jointly announced the new Motorola ROKR E1, the first handset with built-in iTunes support.

The device, which is based much on the Motorola E398 music phone, has built-in support for playing MP3, AAC, and AAC3 music files, as well as support for MPEG4 and h.263 video.

The ROKR E1 can attach to your computer via a USB cable and will work just like an iPod Shuffle does. Album graphics and information are also synchronized from iTunes and will show on the E1’s display as a new track starts. Music play will automatically be paused when an inbound phone call comes in while you are using the included stereo headset, and will resume as soon as the call has been completed. The resume feature was shown by Steve Jobs, and he had a little trouble getting it to resume properly.

Motorola claims that the E1 is capable of playing up to 15 hours when used with the included stereo headset. And while the 512MB TransFlash card that the device ships with can easily hold more than 100 tracks, the ROKR E1 will only allow 100 tracks to be transferred onto each memory card.

The Motorola ROKR E1 should be available within the next few days from Cingular for a price of $249.99 with a 2 year commitment. The ROKR E1 should be available in most of the other major world markets later this month.
