Blackberry 8700

Blackberry 8700It looks like it won’t be too long before a new BlackBerry is released. The specifics are all guesses right now but BBHub has a bit of what might be inside information:

The talk started on Thursday when athreya, a member of BlackBerryForums.com, and the person who first revealed plans for the BlackBerry 7290 to the Forum, posted to the group that his (unnamed) organization had been testing the 8700. That’s the same BlackBerry that according to scuttlebutt, has been code-named Electron.

According to athreya, the new unit will be available sometime in the next couple of months, and will be compatible with Verizon, Cingular and SprintNextel networks.

He says the 8700 will be broadband-capable, with EVDO for Verizon, BB for SprintNextel, and EDGE for Cingular.

If athreya is right, the BlackBerry 8700 will also have:

  • Built-In GPS
  • Built-In IM
  • 64 MB RAM
  • Native-attachment viewing (rather than the requirement for third-party solutions).

The device, however, will not be Wi-Fi or VoIP compatible - and no camera either.
