Cell phones to Read Commercial Content
With cameras in just about every cell released it is not surprising that they would look to find new ways to use the cell phone. One fad catching on in Asia is taking pictures of codes on people to exchange personal information.
Related Posts:With the advent of the two-dimension (2D) barcode, the way some people use a cell phone will change. Aside from becoming a tool for users to easily access a new type of advertising, a tiny voice box will potentially become a ticket for its holder, for example, to movies, transport services and more.
While the one-dimension barcode is the normal technique that stores only an identifying number in the familiar black-and-white set of bars, the 2D system introduces a much higher density of information.
The advantage of 2D codes is that they can store vast amounts of data that can be read by digital cameras fitted into some mobile phones.
“For those who use roaming facilities, the 2D barcode will be a new way to access content and information,” said Pratthana Leelapanang, strategic planning and Future Lab manager of the Wireless Service Development Department at AIS. Planning to introduce this technology commercially in the next few months, AIS intends to turn the 2D barcode into a new mode of advertising.
Even though advertising is traditionally printed on paper or put online, the company aims to make it all electronically accessible through state-of-the-art cell phones. Adding the 2D barcode to advertisements will help cell-phone users if they need to immediately access an online site or cast their vote in an Internet poll. Even without clicking, subscribers can use the camera in the phone to read the barcode.
