Motorola i870 Antibacterial Cell Phone

Motorola i870 Antibacterial Cell PhoneMotorola Inc. today announced the launch of the Motorola i870, a new mobile device that combines an unprecedented multimedia experience with antimicrobial coating. The i870 blends a 1.3 megapixel camera with a video recorder, MP3 player and two-way radio. Additionally, the i870 is the first mobile device to feature the AgION antimicrobial coating which helps inhibit the growth of microbes such as bacteria and mold on the handset’s painted surfaces.

“Mobile professionals and consumers alike have come to expect the most cutting-edge mobile technology from Motorola and with the i870 we are delivering a device that is unlike anything else on the market today,” said Peter Aloumanis, director, U.S. Markets Division, Motorola’s iDEN(R) Mobile Devices. “The Motorola i870 combines communication and entertainment in one unique handset that gives users the ability to take pictures, record important moments and play their favorite music. In addition to its distinctive combination of mobile features, the i870 handset incorporates the protective AgION antimicrobial technology.”

The i870 is a handheld media center that includes the AgION antimicrobial coating. This safe, non-toxic silver ion technology has been incorporated into the phone’s painted surfaces to help inhibit the growth of bacteria, mold and other microorganisms. The key multimedia features of the i870 include:

— A Camcorder and 1.3 Megapixel Camera. This option allows users to capture pictures and record up to a one-hour session of video, which can be sent as images or short video clips using the multimedia messaging service.*
— Music Player. This allows users to play MP3 audio files stored on either the memory card or the phone even when the handset is closed.
— Removable Memory Card. This Transflash card enables users to save media including music, video and pictures on a removable card available at various sizes (128MB, 256MB and 512MB).
— Wide Integrated Digital Enhanced Network (WiDEN). WiDEN enables users to send and receive data up to four times faster than the current iDEN network.
— Bluetooth(R) Wireless Technology. This keeps users connected with local wireless devices including certain compatible Bluetooth enabled wireless phones and headsets, PDAs, laptops, desktops and handheld computers.**
— Selective Dynamic Group Call (SDGC). This feature enables users to setup two-way radio talk groups for up to 20 people, which allows users to stay in touch when they are nearby or on the road.*
— MOTOtalk. This allows users who are outside of the coverage area to manually transfer to a two-way radio-to-radio communication mode with a range of up to six miles depending upon specific conditions, such as terrain. i***

“We are excited to work with Motorola to incorporate AgION’s patented antimicrobial technology into the i870 handset,” said J. Ladd Greeno, president and CEO of AgION. “Silver has a centuries-long history of use as an antimicrobial and our compound has been incorporated into a variety of applications including apparel, pens and even medical devices. The built-in antimicrobial coating of the i870 will help to ensure effective and long-lasting protection of the handset from damaging microbes.”

The i870 is available through all Nextel distribution channels, including retail stores, at a price of $299.99, with a two-year service agreement, new activation and credit approval. Taxes, fees, early termination fee and other charges apply.

  1. I absolutely love this phone. I bought a 512 mb memory card and am able to carry approximately 100 songs with me at all times. Takes great pictures and has great sound.Voice dialing is also a plus since I have my hands full all the time.Great for driving. There are a few down falls with this phone though. Bluetooth headsets are not compatable with the audio player, only wired headsets are.The name of the songs definately have to be under 32 charaters long or the phone won’t recognize them. Had to rename my songs. It won’t recognize high resolution pictures scanned to your computer and then placed on the memory card. I was however able to get a low resolution pic. to be recognized but was unable to make it a wallpaper. Only the pictures that you take with the phone are able to be turned into wallpaper. The pics. that I do take from the phone a great. Bottom line, it is the best phone I have ever owned.

  4. Hi! Robin How are you? I just recently purchased the i870 as well and it’s going on my second week now. I love everything about it like you it also is the best phone I have ever had; although I am running to a slight problem and just wondering if you could be of any assistance. I’ve tried several times to download the disk so that I can burn cd’s also but every time it has told me i://me.setup.exe not found and I was just wondering what should I do about that or do you know of a way to use the mp3 without ever having to install the software. If you can help I would gladly appreciate it but if you can’t thank you still for taking the time to read this.

  5. This is a great phone. So far the best thing about it is the MP3Player. So far the worst thing is the fact that the bluetooth headset doesn’t work with the MP3Player. THe sound from the external speaker is awesome. The colors on the internal screen are brilliant. THe phones operating system seems to be faster than the I860 also.

  6. I have a I870. But it will not work with windows xp. Have been getting the error E;\ is not accessible incorrect function. I cannot load music onto flash card at all. I really like the phone, but if I can’t solve this problem it is history. Anyone have any suggestions as to why my Dell 4600c, xp home version, will not recognize the flash card reader and let me download songs???

  7. Wow.. this phone is quite amazing!!! I love the mp3 player! I love the camera! (VIDEO & PICS!) All these features, and it’s a NEXTEL! lol I love it…
Also, with this phone, you can FINALLY send text messages using the PHONE and not the WEB BROWSER…

The only thing that really annoys me is the fact that the audio player doesn’t work with bluetooth…

EVEN THOUGH: it CLEARLY says under “help” in the audio player, “Bluetooth only supports 8khz mono”… I tried sending a wav file and an mp3 file encoded with that frequency and I still get the error…

I really hope motorola comes out with a software upgrade that will allow bluetooth to work with the audio player! IT IS THE ONLY THING MISSING!!!!!

  14. How do you download ringtones onto the i870 phone? With the new memory card feature, it is not quite as easy as previous phones. I tried plugging it into a USB cord, however it said that it was not compatible or something to that nature. Please could you help me out with this? Thank you in advance!!!
