LG S5200 Slider Review
Mobile Burn has a review of the LG S5200, a sexy slider phone from the company that made slider phones popular.
The LG S5200 looks like a cross between a Motorola V1000 (cancelled) and a Samsung D500. The phone itself is a fairly small and solid device, measuring 93mm x 46.6mm x 21.4mm (3.66″ x 1.83″ x 0.84″) - it can easily fit into your pocket. Although the front is made of smooth plastic and is prone to fingerprints, the 95g (3.35oz) weight makes it feel less like a toy. The back of the phone is made of quasi-velvet textured plastic, and this gives the phone a firmer grip, especially when sliding the screen up. Build quality is excellent as the moving parts all click into the right places. On top of that, scratch resistance is above average.
The phone manages to earn a recommended rating thanks to its small size, excellent sliding mechanism, good reception, simple functions and ease of use.
Top rated 3G phones
InfoSync World shows off their top rated 3G cell phones in a recent article. They give the Sony Ericsson W900i top honors, with others falling in line behind it.
Sony Ericsson W900i (Score: 87%, Very good)
Sony Ericsson W900i
Making its way to the number one spot on our list ist Sony Ericsson’s all-singing, all-dancing W900i, complete with speedy 3G; a superb high-resolution display; and a snap-happy 2 Megapixel camera with autofocus. Its browser is unfortunately rather average and battery life is naturally modest for such a fully featured handset - but for €650 EUR, one does get an outstanding music player and Bluetooth connectivity for either streaming audio in stereo or providing high-speed Internet access for a laptop.
The other phones mentioned are the Nokia N70, Nokia 6680, LG U880 and the Sony Ericsson K608i.
LG PM-225 Review
Laptop Magazine takes a quick look at the LG PM-225, a flip phone without an antenna and they give it a 3.5 out of 5 on their review scale.
Like the Samsung t309, the LG PM-225 skips the antenna to achieve a sleek design, but in this case you can take your pick of a red or silver front.
Unfortunately, the narrow body of this 3.4-ounce clamshell creates a cramped dialpad. Images captured by the VGA camera looked decent for a budget phone, especially in well-lit environments.
Once you’ve saved that snapshot, sending it off to another phone or e-mail address with Sprint’s Picture Mail service is a snap.
LG’s Migo Review
Mobile Burn takes a look at LG’s Migo, a kid specific cell phone that looks more like what you’d expect one of those Pokemon characters to look like than a typical cell phone.
While by no means the first kid-specific mobile phone on the market, LG’s Migo does mark the first time that a major manufacturer has developed one and put some actual marketing muscle behind it. The idea behind the Migo, and similar devices like the Firefly, is to develop a handset for younger kids in their pre-teen years. Make it simple to use, limit the phone’s ability to make outbound calls, and make it “cool” enough that your youngster is going to want to carry it around with him or her.
In the end they give it a highly recommended rating, but they also point out two big flaws in the system, as the Migo does not have GPS capabilities, which would help police track down children, nor does it have inbound call restrictions, which would stop children from being interrupted from homework or school work by friends who just want to chat.

LG u880 3G Phone Review
3G has a look at the u880 and I quote “Wave goodbye to the old LG 3G phones and bring in the new. LG downsizes and makes a giant step forward in the 3G handset desirability stakes.”
Here is some more information from their review:
Last month, LG unveiled the u880 as the “world’s slimmest 3G phone” and at 18.2mm thick, I don’t know of any 3G phone in Europe that’s thinner. I’ve checked the Motorola V3x 3G phone and its 19.6mm thick. At 98 grams, this is certainly one of the lightest around. The last LG we reviewed weighed in at 132 grams ( LG 8360 ). Now that’s downsizing for you.
The early LG 3G phones lacked some basic features like : Bluetooth, a powerful camera and expandable memory. Those shortcomings are brushed aside with the arrival of LG’s new 3G offering. One thing for sure is that 3G is definitely moving out of the infancy phase when you see 3G phones like this hitting the shops. My first impression of the u880 is that its “on the money”.
LG Turns to Java for Cell Phone OS
Java is said to be a slower running language by some of the developers I know, but more and more it seems to be the most versatile language as it appears in just about every device and on every operating system. LG Electronics has decided to use an operating system completely programmed in Java for its latest handset.
SavaJe OS is an advanced open operating system for handsets, based on Sun Microsystems’ Java technology. Unlike other handset operating systems, all handset applications, including the handset UI are written in Java.
This LG Electronics says, allows the company to easily offer operator customisations, while using a common software platform.
“The SavaJe and LG Electronics implementation of a complete handset operating system based on Java technologies extends significant opportunities to developers”, said Alan Brenner, Vice President, Client Systems Group, Sun Microsystems, Inc.
Dr. Skott Ahn, Executive Vice President, LG Electronics, said “Creating an open OS is a significant achievement in itself. To do so using Java, offering this level of performance for the entire applications platform, including full telephony support, brings a new era of opportunity for developers, operators and end-users”.
I guess only time will really tell if this was the powerful move that the LG executives make it sound like it is.
