“Tivo” in Your Cellphone

thisearly.com has a snippit of news that I thought was interesting. It seems LG is working on phones for live TV and whatnot. Movies on your “cell phone” is where we are heading. One integrated device for just about every function in your life. This is a pretty good start.
LG Electronics shows off a phone that allows you to pause live TV to take that very important phone call.
LG Electronics unveils the world’s first digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) phone with a so-called ‘time machine’ function. While watching the broadcast, users can answer phone calls without worrying about missing important parts as the time-machine function in the phone saves them for replay. The phone will be introduced at the Korea Electronics Show 2005 which opens Tuesday at the Korea International Exhibition Center (KINTEX) in Ilsan, Gyeonggi Province.

LG’s F7200 with push-to-talk
Engadget has all the news today with a short snippit on the F7200.
So LG was showing off their new Cingular push-to-talk launch device, the F7200 last night.
Not really a remarkable phone, and perhaps a little larger than we might have expected for an LG slider device of this class, but you won’t have to worry about making a decision between it and the Samsung D357 in the immediate future being that their PTT launch has apparently been delayed until mid-November. Yay!
So it looks like Cingular is racking up some nice phones for near christmas releases. Should be interesting to see how this one performs against the Samsung D357.
Verizon Shows LG VX9800 EV-DO Communicator
Mobile Burn has the scoop on the LG VX9800 EV-DO Communicator. It looks like a really interesting cell phone/pocket pc.
Today Verizon Wireless took the unusual step of announcing a device that is not ready to ship yet. The new LG VX9800, a QWERTY keyboard equipped handset with some links to the F9100 that was sold on Cingular, was announced today. Verizon says that people can “pre-register” for the phone, but the website merely offers a link that will ensure that you receive an email when the device is truly available next week.
The VX9800’s spec sheet is pretty impressive. It offers a 1.3 megapixel camera, built-in stereo speakers, 12MB of internal RAM with a miniSD expansion card slot, and a MP3 player. The camera includes a business card read function. For the messaging system, there is also a text to speech function. Unlike the F9100 that used the same display for the keypad and keyboard, the VX9800 opens up like a communicator to reveal a larger, separate display for use with the keyboard. The large internal display is a 320×256 pixel 262k color unit. The external is a smaller 160×128 pixel 65k color unit.
As of the 26th of September, the LG VX9800 will be available for $299.99 after a $50 mail in rebate.
LG 9800 Verizon Review from Gizmodo
The writers of Gizmodo have been lucky enough to get their hands of the LG 9800 from Verizon, and here is what they had to say about it.
From Gizmodo
Just got a preproduction LG9800 Verizon unit in hand and so far, I’m likin’ it. A flip phone with a full QWERTY keyboard, this new mobile reminds me of the Motorola A630 I sported for a while, but the larger keyboard really does make a difference with messaging and the general button mashing. Though I have to admit, if I didn’t wear a purse, I wouldn’t be psyched about carrying it around in my pocket. It is a little bulky. One important thing to keep in mind: it is not a smartphone. There’s no OS and the screen is not high-res, but if you want something for every day, plus great messaging features and EV-DO, I recommend this sleek looking phone (buttons glow a nice blue).
The internal screen is only a 2.2”, 4 x 3 lcd, not widescreen, which is a bit disappointing, but I really like the cute stereo speakers on either side of it.The back of the phone holds the 1.3 megapixel cameraphone which when put to the test, didn’t seem to have that horrible shaking thing happening I had problems with when using the Sony Ericsson a710—the phone that first used this clever design. Could have used a flash though.
A mini SD slot is included for extra storage, though I’m still confused about what can be done with music. Every carrier has different rules about transferring music from computer to phone and vice versa, and since I always end up with open versions of phones, I’m still planning on getting a good eduction on this soon. Phone hits stores Sept. 30. No price announced yet.
LG C960

Not too many things are known about the new LG C960, but the little that is known blows away competitors.
The design of the phone is unlike anything seen before. It is a candybar in the traditional sense but then its upper and lower halves can be easily rotated / twisted, which is not something that the other candy bar designs do.
The C960 is said to carry a 5 megapixel camera, which is better than my 3.2MP digital camera. Unlike the usual method of placing the camera lens behind the display, the C960 places the camera behind the keypad. This is done since the upper and lower halves are not equal in size. The lens and display are thus on different halves, its better to shoot photos and videos this way, with the phone rotated into two halves. The 5 megapixel camera is also supported with a flash.
The camera is also said to have pretty high quality MP3 capabilities, and easy controls and interface. Also included in the handset are a few 3D games which should be fun to play.
Like I mentioned before we do not have the detailed technical specifications of the LG C960 as yet but it is one good looking phone.
LG VX5200 launched by Verizon Wireless
Another clamshell form factor phone released from LG, the VX5200 released for Verizon Wireless, showcases both style and function. Some of the major features include an integrated VGA camera, speaker-independent voice recognition and LG’s hands-free ‘drive mode’ for maximum safety while using the phone in the car.
Being able to send picture messages with the VX5200’s VGA CMOS camera owners will never miss a moment with its digital zoom, integrated flash and room to save up to 200 photos in the phone’s gallery.
Another bit of evidence of more and more PDA functions being put into a cell phone.
