Hands-On With Sony Ericsson’s M600
Mobile Burn has been able to take a look at the M600 from Sony Ericsson.
The inaugural M series handset, the UMTS/GSM M600, shares a large percentage of its components with the W950 Walkman phone that was announced later that night.
The keyboard has an unusual layout that is not altogether dissimilar to that of the RIM BlackBerry 7100 series. A somewhat normal numeric keypad is found in the middle of the device, and an extra column of keys are found on either side of it.
Each key represents two letters of the alphabet, just as is the case in the RIM handsets.
The M600 comes with about 80MB of internal storage built-in. In order to augment that further, a Memory Stick Micro slot was installed on the right side of the device.
The M600’s nice 2.6″ QVGA display is only slightly smaller than the display found in the P990 (2.8″).
It is very bright, and has touch-screen functionality that enables the user to use a stylus with the UIQ v3 user interface that the M600 runs on top of Symbian OS v9.1.
In the end they let us know that Europe and North Americal can expect to see the M600 around the second quarter of this year.
